Summary: Con Somerford and Susan Kerslake meet again eleven years after Susan spurned Con upon learning he was not heir to the Earldom of Wyvern. But, in a reversal of fortune, Con is now the Earl, and Susan is the housekeeper, a job she took to recoup some gold owed to smugglers with ties to her family. Despite Susan's former ill-treatment of Con, he finds himself still drawn to her and wonders if she still desires to become the Countess of Wyvern. Susan is also attracted to Con, though he is now a hardened man, embittered by war and her previous rejection.
