- After self-made construction millionaire Edgar Freemantle is mangled in an accident, his life falls into disarray. His temper becomes unmanageable, and he twice attempts to kill his wife. Following an ugly divorce, and on his psychiatrist's advice, Edgar moves to Duma Key, a secluded area on Florida's Gulf Coast. There he rents a small house from a mysterious old woman. Alone, he begins painting with otherworldly proficiency. But his hobby soon consumes him, and his creations display terrifying powers that threaten his life and sanity
